But just because it’s safe to flush it down the drain, doesn’t mean you should. We suggest limiting the impact on the environment as much as possible and prefer to see as much of the glitter used in a glitter bath find its way to decompose rather than degrade in our water environments.
Our entire range of biodegradable loose glitter mixes are bath time safe, but our cosmetic Bioglitter™ PURE and HOLO are exceptionally suitable for bath play such as in DYI bath bombs or just popped directly in the bath for a glittery effect.
A bioglitter bath is a colourful and sparkly experience. It’s like adding a touch of magic to your self care bath routine. The bioglitter pieces float and sink in the water to create a swirl of glittery colour for a delightfully playful yet relaxing experience, one that is also kind on our environment.
While our bioglitter is wastewater safe, we always recommend straining your bath to stop as much bioglitter from going into the wastewater as possible. Here M our founder is using a mesh bag she got with something else, to strain the bath to collect as much of the glitter as I possible. When you do this you can then pop it into a plant or shake it on your garden or grass to biodegrade into harmless particles like water, biomass, and carbon dioxide.
So next time you’re running a bath, we suggest you gather all your plants, all your candles and then sprinkle in some bioglitter of your choice and enjoy a little glitter magic in your bioglitter bath.
You can check out the video M created on Instagram! Don’t forget to follow for tips and tricks and all things bioglitter!
]]>The purpose of Earth Day is to encourage individuals and organisations to take action to protect the planet and its natural resources. However at Glitterazzi Biodegradable Glitter we believe every day should be Earth Day.
But in honour of Earth Day 2023, we decided to do a little experiment to watch and see how our biodegradable glitter actually degrades.
But first what is biodegradable glitter really? Biodegradable glitter is an eco-friendly type of glitter that uses plant-derived regenerated eucalyptus cellulose rather than plastic. At Glitterazzi we only use Bioglitter™ and the only glitter proven to biodegrade into harmless substances once makes contact with the natural environment.
For our experiment, we are replicating what happens when glitter lands in a natural environment like a paddock or field. You can also watch it on Instagram @glitterazzi.me
We took a shallow pot that was lying around the house and filled it with a potting mix - just like you would a new plant.
We then layout the glitter on the the earth. Took it outside and sprayed it with water to start the process. And we will monitor it for the next few weeks reporting back by updating this blog article.
We will update the post every few days over the next few weeks to show you how the process works! #watchthisspace
Once the Bioglitter™ enters the natural environment such as landfill, a farmer’s field, wastewater or our pot of potting mix, microbes will start to consume the cellulose core turning it into carbon dioxide, water and biomass. Rethink icon Bioglitter™ does not dissolve in water, it needs bacteria and other microorganisms to biodegrade.
There are a number of factors in how fast the bioglitter will biodegrade. These are local environmental factors, such as heat, moisture and concentration of microbes. Like a leaf, the Bioglitter™ will degrade faster in warm and wet conditions.
For us at Glitterazzi, biodegradable glitter is more than just a business, it is a movement that is why we only uses real biodegradable glitter Bioglitter™; that is designed to break down naturally in the environment over time. Glitterazzi Biodegradable Glitter is made from plant-based materials such as eucalyptus, and it is free from harmful chemicals and microplastics. It is also packaged in eco-friendly materials and is shipped in recycled or salvaged packaging because we believe glitter (and everything it comes in) should never be litter.
In addition to its biodegradability, Glitterazzi biodegradable glitter is cruelty-free, vegetarian and vegan, making it a sustainable and ethical choice for conscious consumers. By choosing Glitterazzi, you can enjoy the sparkle and shine of glitter knowing exactly what the glitter is doing to you and the earth.
]]>I just want to make it clear, at Glitterazzi Biodegradable Glitter we don’t believe a wedding day is the only best day of your life, and that it should not be the day you've been waiting for all your entire life.
Marriage is not for everyone, but it can be everything to others. Some will have no wedding days and others may have a few. We support all choices, decisions and beliefs, but what we don’t prescribe to is women and men, being told that they just need to find their "prince charming" and then they can live happily ever after. We believe you need to do the inner work to find true happiness within yourself and everything else is a delightful extra that you can choose to take or leave.
In saying the above, glitter is still a very wonderful, if not divine accompaniment to any celebration and especially for one where two people are committing their love for each other aka a wedding.
And we honour and celebrate (and encourage) all brides and grooms to choose to look glamorous and sparkly for their wedding celebrations. Glitter is the perfect way for couples to incorporate additional sparkle into the party (and their happily every after life - giggle).

Whether you are looking for the perfect sparkly eyeshadow to accentuate your eyes, a glitter beard to create a bold sparkly statement as you walk down the aisle, a sprinkle of fine glitter on your clavicle for a little extra but understated glam, or a toss across the table for fun deco decorations, glitter is the perfect addition to an already stunning wedding ensemble.
But sadly, regular glitter is plastic, and not all biodegradable glitter is made equal. Our biodegradable glitter is Bioglitter™ and is made from plant cellulose, a product derived from renewable sources such as eucalyptus trees. The properties of biodegradable glitter make it perfect for brides and grooms who want an eco-friendly choice for their glitter wedding makeup or decorations. But not only is Glitterazzi biodegradable glitter a safe, environmentally friendly option, that is also less likely to irritate the skin.
When incorporating glitter into your wedding day celebrations, there are plenty of options. And real biodegradable glitter is the way to go, it's indistinguishable from regular glitter and can be used to create both a subtle and a dramatic effect — the choice is up to you!

She explained that she had paired up with the fabulous Tash York and they were doing a show about getting attention and wanted some glitter to add to the mix.
After an initial chat, we uncovered that we should make unique glitter mixes named after them for them to sell exclusively at their shows. Which is exactly what we’ve done.
Dolly wanted pink, and Tash wanted iridescent and purple, and Emily, our founder, wanted them to have a glitter balm that would steal the show, so suggested using our latest holographic glitter.
Now the test was on to see how to create two unique mixes that looked great on their own, looked fantastic as a pair but even better as a thrupple.
There were many iterations but we got there and the result is magic!
But, here is where the twist comes in. You can’t buy them from Glitterazzi. You can only get them by going to one of their shows.
Check out the list of shows that are near you.
Check out the Dolly & Task Attention Seekers Glitter.
Glitterazzi Biodegradable Glitter is so proud to have designed these exclusive merchandise for these two very talented performers. Chat to us if you’d like your very own glitter mix designed.

The idea for a Glitter Balm, first came to our founder M as an alternative to our really easy to use and ready to Rave Bags. We had been looking to discontinue them because we had discovered that our "biodegradable plastic" ziplock bags were not as they claimed. Plus leaving the glitter in aloe gel meant the glitter started to curl and over time colour would bleed out into the gel. Not to mention over a long period of time the gel would dry up. The Rave Bags worked find when micro-batched and purchased for instant use. But overall they had a short shelf life and was in the end just felt wasteful - not idea at all.
Using oil would solve two important things - the curling of the glitter, and the bleeding of the colour.
Inspiration took hold when she found a bees wax lip balm kit💡 in a Barwon Heads lifestyle store. Back home she played around adding glitter and it worked brilliantly. However, the lip balm kit had a plastic wind tube and these are not reusable and often not recyclable.
This is where the idea for cardboard came. Again in Barwon Heads she found a solid perfume in a kraft tube and then noticed lip balms also in kraft cardboard tubes.
Initially they worked great. But we'd launched in spring 2018 but had not anticipated moody weather (just like us, natural things are influenced by the weather). The first batch balm was too soft and would not push back down, the second batch balm was made too hard and would not melt enough with the warmth of the skin to make application easy.
And then M saw a beautiful customer with Glitterazzi balms at a festival. She was loving them and putting them on everyone. Everyone she dressed in the balm was loving them too, raving about the smell and how wonderful they felt on the skin. But M could see how the kraft tubes had started breaking, that the oil had leaked into the tubes... they just looked ratty. She was horrified.
We pulled the balms in kraft tubes off the site. And looked for alternative solutions. We introduced slide tins at first, but as the slide tin doesn't seal you need a hard balm solution, which is not bad, it's just harder to use and these tins were quite large which meant you had more product than you'd ever be able to get through.
And that's how we ended up with mini screw tins filled with 5 gms of glitter or shimmer balm for a very reasonable $13 RRR. Five grams might not should like much but I've not been able to use one up yet!
We love the packaging, easy to use, easy to send, hygienic and if the balm gets a little too hot it will be fine and if it gets a little too cold it's still easy to use. Yay ✨
Available in 12 different glitter balm mixes, including 2 in our iridescent biodegradable glitter rang.
]]>I grew up in and around the stunning Jervis Bay, and Christmas is traditionally hot and dry with a few close calls and evacuations with fire. But this year it's different as the entire country is on fire.
(Source: MyFireWatch. Left: Fires 0-48 hours old as at 25/12/19 20:00 ASDT. Right: Last years burnt area)
I now live in Melbourne, and Mum and Dad in the tiny coastal NSWs town of Woollamia. Since June and every time I've mentioned that we've had rain in Melbourne, Mum has been saying, "it's so dry here, I'm not looking forward to summer". She kept worrying about all the bush being "like kindling" with no moisture around and much of the scrub dead or dying. Kept warning me of a bad fire season. Today, on Christmas Day it's hard to know exactly how devastating the fires have been on our native wildlife, but we do know about five million hectares of Australia have been burnt or are burning in an “unprecedented” start to the summer fire season.
NSW alone has seen 3.41m ha burned so far. That's 11 times more than last year we are only halfway through the season. What scares me is that this year with everything so dry, everything is fuel for the fire. Trees are falling and won't regenerate this year, birds are dying of heat exhaustion... we just can't comprehend what this will do to populations of wildlife as they are either wiped out by the fire or die after of injury or starvation or exhaustion.
(Source: Left: ABC News Twitter. Right: Guardian)
On my walk around Woollamia yesterday I noticed the flowering gums had not come into full flower yet and the tiny areas that had were inundated with birds and bees hungry for the small nectar they had to offer. We then noticed that evening there are no bugs, no mosquitos, no cicadas, and not a single Christmas beetle. Like many insects, they rely on the combination of water, humidity, and temperature to complete their lifecycle. This is scary without the fires on top!
Last night we were greeted by the sounds and sights of flying fox, like I've never seen in the area. Looking into it they could be displaced colony from the fires here in the Shoalhaven.
I'm no expert but seeing what's happening around me, knowing the huge areas that have been devastated by fire already, and knowing we have months left of an extreme summer with no rain predicted until March... I'm scared for our wildlife.

We would never want to put restrictions on or limit your imagination but to help, we’ve pulled together 7 beautiful ways to apply glitter to your face: Eyelids, Highlighter Alternative, The Half Moon, Glitterazzi's signature application style the Glitter Temple, Under The Eye, The Mask, and Lips.
]]>
Before we start, we only ever suggest using cosmetic biodegradable glitter for face and body glitter applications. You’re putting glitter on your skin, often near your eyes or on your lips which means you want to invest in cosmetic grade glitter that has been tested for use with skin. You’ll also be washing this glitter off and thus washing it down the drain into our waterways so please don’t use plastic glitter. Cosmetic Bioglitter® is the only proven environmentally and skin friendly options available and it’s the only glitter we use in our mixes. There is an environmentally friendly alternative, thus there is no need to ever use plastic glitter, cosmetic or craft for your face or body applications again.

It might be still cold here in Melbourne Australia, but it is September and there have been a few days that have teased us with the beautiful weather ahead for… Australia’s FESTIVAL SEASON and we’re excited to share with you the latest festival makeup trends with you and even more excited to see our (the collective Australian festival goers) take on them over the next few months.
This is the most exciting overall makeup trend for 2018 - the fresh glow and natural foundation trend. And it’s about time. But to do this “you must first ace the base” says top Skin and Laser Specialist Crystal Patel “so your skin glows naturally without foundation”. This year, Glitterazzi Glitter gives you permission to back off from a heavy foundation look at festivals (and every day), Instead, use a good sunscreen and a mineral powder and let the skin of your face be as free as those cheeks (yes we just said that).
This is so exciting for us and is one of the reasons we started our Biodegradable Glitter business in the first place. Festivals are the perfect place for getting your creative on and having wild and free fun with glitter. But there is no reason to use glitter that is not proven to be biodegradable and compostable, otherwise, it’s just like leaving your ciggy butts in the bush (did you know they’re plastic too!). Because, no matter how hard you try to keep your makeup in place for 17 hrs of dancing, we guarantee you’re going to end up losing a few sparkles here and there and that’s ok if it’s proven to biodegrade into harmless substances! If you’re not sure - ask for their credentials or check that they are a licensed distributor of eco-friendly glitter like us.
We’ve collected our best glitter makeup ideas to inspire you. These are all face glitter looks using our biodegradable eco-friendly glitter.
For other ideas you can always head over to our Pinterest board - this has stunning glitter looks we’ve collected but they are not created with biodegradable glitter. Be inspired but use eco glitter instead to replicate these looks.
Body glitter is one of our favourite festival makeup gotos. It’s easy and can have such an awesome impact, especially on a guy (who might not be able or feel so comfortable to wear Face Glitter like our dear friend Leather Lungs as featured above). We just suggest you use a stronger glue such as an organic hair gel for your application base.
We’ve always been a fan of colour and love seeing how people wear it in makeup at festivals. We’ve collected a few of our favorite bold and colourful festival makeup looks to inspire you. We also suggest highlighting these looks with a little biodegradable glitter for a little extra fun!
Can’t be bothered with all the makeup but still want to have a little fun. Why not just add a touch of colour under the eyes or try colour where you would normally put highlights such as under the brows or on the cheekbones.
You do you. You’re at a festival and that in itself gives you permission to backhand the trends, fashion, style, and just do you - whatever that is, whatever you love or have always wanted to do. From no makeup to no clothes, it’s about whatever makes you feel good. As long as it’s not hurting anyone or culturally offensive we say - go play!

I loved how Sandra used our the pink glitter as eyeshadow on the stunning Nicole Schenk. However, she didn't stop there. Check out the stunning application down the neck of the handsome Willie.
Shot by the extremely talented photographer Nora Dal Cero, our biodegradable glitter looks so stunning. We're so impressed with the photos that you'll see them around our website!
We love glitter ears, and we loved how Sandra combined pink and violet biodegradable glitters together for this mix on the ear and hand!
How dreamy is Willie. We just love the masculine glitter look Sandra created down his neck.

It was so much fun sparkling up the crowd with our biodegradable glitter at Piknic Électronik Melbourne. And what a great party to be involved in, quality electronic music in the open air, surrounded by greenery and the beautiful Melbourne city as a backdrop. Perfect!
We sparkled up attendees with our biodegradable glitter mixes as well as specially designed mixes that we made just for Piknic Électronik (especially Sunday Piknic that we just had to include on our site)
But we also love Piknic Électronik’s commitment to having a good time without destroying the environment. They are conscious of the impact an event such as theirs can have, implemented a number of initiatives to reduce waste including the reusable cups which we at Glitterazzi Biodegradable Glitter just love.

]]>Thank you to the Creatix team for their support, taking our Biodegradable Glitter as their own for Rainbow Serpent 2018 and doing some of the best body I’ve ever seen at a festival. We were tickled that in our first month of operation our eco-friendly glitter was available at one of the best festivals in Australia, even the world.
Inspired by the beauty of the human form, Creatix aim is to empower people, to embrace their potential for transformation, acceptance and uninhibited self-expression, and boy do they do this! The Creatrix team sees the human form as the ultimate canvas, each being unique and dynamic.
The team at Creatix are the most talented body artists in Australia and some of the most beautiful people to work with. We suggest you follow them on Instagram @creatrix_bodyart as their work is truly inspirational. We are so excited everyone loved our biodegradable glitter as much as we do! We look forward to seeing more biodegradable glitter at Australian festivals.
We love what they do, and what they stand for. We look forward to working with them at other festivals and events! Special thanks to Elfie who is just one of the most delightful humans on this planet. Yay to biodegradable glitter.
]]>Biodegradable or eco-glitter is the environmentally conscious alternative. Using plant-derived materials rather than polyester, it degrades into harmless substance in the environment. Bioglitter® is the only biodegradable glitter on the market that is actually proven to do this, and at Glitterazzi it is the only glitter we will use.
]]>I’ve always loved glitter. I’m not sure if I was drawn to the shin, or the glimmer, or the sparkle, but I’ve always had a glitter addiction. I also grew up with the ocean in my blood, removing rubbish from its shores as I strolled along, or scooping up plastic bottles, fishing line and plastic bags from the rivers when out kayaking. I hate plastic and have been disgusted with the rapid growth of plastic waste in our oceans, rivers, and waterways over the year.
My hatred for plastic cemented when I saw the trailer for Albatross; the film about thousands of young albatrosses dead on Midway Island from starvation. Their stomachs filled with plastic. So you can imagine my horror when I realised… GLITTER WAS PLASTIC and I, me, Emily, was washing plastic glitter down the drain and leaving a trail of beautiful yet devastating plastic litter in my wake.
And how naive was I. I mean, what else could it have been. Glitter is the definition of the “microplastics” - it’s typically made from polyethylene, plastic bag “plastic” and is “micro”, 1 millimeter in size or smaller.
And we all know how hard it is to clean it up, now imagine trying to clean glitter from our waterways after you wash your hands and face of it… impossible. It’s not a plastic bottle that floats to the surface with a few barnacles, it is pre-prepared tiny particles of PLASTIC that will slip through the finest nets and appear to disappear, only to reappear in our food source.
Yes, glitter is the perfect size to be ingested by a range of creatures such as mussels, fish, and other animals. This obviously poses a problem for all those higher up the food chain, with, yours truly right there on top. There is not much research into the amount or impact of glitter in our waterways, but the research on microbeads suggests that about 8 trillion beads are released into aquatic habitats every day in the United States alone…
So what’s the alternative?
Biodegradable or eco-glitter is the environmentally conscious alternative. Using plant-derived materials rather than polyester, it degrades into a harmless substance. Bioglitter® is the only biodegradable glitter on the market that is actually proven to do this, and at Glitterazzi it is the only glitter we will use.
It’s also the reason why Anna and I started this business. We wanted to give people, who like ourselves love glitter, access to an alternative that was environmentally friendly. For us, it is a point of pride that we’ve adjusted, adapted and found a safer alternative. Why use other glitters when there is a product that is just as beautiful, better for the environment and… wait… better for you too!
Yes Bioglitter®, our eco-friendly alternative, has health benefits too. It is free of nastic chemicals, it’s non-toxic and is physically 30%-40% softer on your skin!
So go forth and sparkle, and buy biodegradable glitter now that you know you won’t be littering our earth with tiny pieces of plastic.
