Shop Local This Christmas

It's been one crazy year for all and if you're anything like me, you did a lot of online window shopping.

While I was three screens deep, wrapped in a teal blanket on the couch with my pooch curled beside me, I found some amazing Australia businesses selling some fantastic things. This year, I'm buying locally and thought I'd share some of the wonderful local businesses and items as Christmas Gift Ideas. They are all gifts I personally would love to receive, or have a special person in mind for.

Poppy & Daisy - QLD

Overwhelmed with the plastic gifts that piled up in our lounge room after hosting her daughters Poppy & Daisy's birthday party, owner Helen saw the need for sustainable options for gifting that inspire creative minds.

I just love everything on her site, but especially her Handmade Paper Kit ($69.95) and the Flower Press Kit ($64.95). These especially tickle my childhood memories as I remember making paper and pressing flowers in the old telephone books (yellow and white pages - and yes this is showing my age!). My beautiful mum even pressed Australian flowers that she laminated and sent to me when I was living in Berlin.

Salt Trading Co

I love candles and the soy candle candles from Salt Trading Co from the Sunshine Coast are particularly special and run by Hannah another talented woman. They use only the absolute highest quality natural ingredients, all sourced within Australia from their 100% Natural Eco soy wax that they combine with high quality essential oils and natural plant based fragrant oils, sustainably sourced wooden wicks and locally handmade ceramic vessels. My favourite is the stunning wonky ceramics of the Hug Mug ($64.95) They are individually hand moulded, creating a truly unique and quality piece of timeless home decor. Complete with a tranquil sustainable wooden wick. But the best bit, it's reusable as a mug (or maybe it was a mug and someone put a candle in it). As a crystal lover, their their Crystal Candle (from $54.95) collection.

Behind The Trees - Wooden Toys

I have fallen totally in love wit Behind The Trees. Their beautifully selected wooden toys are designed with the intention of inviting wonder into children’s play and their deep passion for the Earth and all of her resources. They support organic, recycled and fair trade products and like us reuse boxes and packing material as often as possible! Lianne Fauvrelle mum and owner has a stunning collection of products (but just close your eyes when you see bioglitter from our competitor) and any child who might receive one would be ticked to say the least. Check out Wooden Water Ways - build a wooden watercourses and then watch the water cascade down these rustic wooden channels as they pour the water down a handcrafted wooden funnel.
