Trump Made Glitterazzi Glitter More Expensive for the U.S.
Shipping to U.S. Update by Glitterazzi
On 30 July 2025, Donald Trump signed Executive Order 14324, which removed the long-standing duty-free agreement between the U.S. and Australia. From 29 August 2025, every parcel entering the U.S. — even those under USD 800 — is now subject to import duties.
The order also requires duties to be prepaid before parcels arrive in the U.S. Other countries, like Germany, collect these fees on arrival. The U.S. now demands payment upfront.
In response, on 26 August 2025, Australia Post suspended most U.S.-bound parcels while it worked with Zonos to create a system to collect and remit duties to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Letters, documents, and gifts under USD 100 were exempt. Australia Post resumed services in late September, with all Post Office counter lodgements due to restart by 7 October 2025.
What this means for Glitterazzi U.S. orders
-
10% tariff. Goods made in Australia now face a 10% tariff. For example, a $46.50 Glitter Kit attracts an additional $4.65 in U.S. duty.
-
$7 customs clearance fee. On top of the tariff, Zonos charges a processing and clearance fee. The catch? This fee isn’t known in advance. Zonos only issues the invoice to us 24 hours after your parcel has been shipped and processed. To keep things moving, we’ve set a flat $7 fee at checkout.
-
Mandatory declarations. Every parcel must now include Country of Origin, item value, and the correct HS tariff code.
How we’re handling costs
To keep things transparent:
-
Shipping + $7 handling fee will appear at checkout as usual.
-
The 10% U.S. tariff has to be added separately for now. Shopify hasn’t rolled out a simple way for small businesses (outside Shopify Plus) to collect this automatically at checkout.
-
This means we’ll calculate the 10% tariff after you place your order and send you a separate charge before your parcel is dispatched.
-
We apologise for the inconvenience and double handling — we’re working on better systems to make this effortless for U.S. customers.
If it turns out that $7 is too high for the Zonos fee, we’ll issue Glitterazzi Store Credit to make up the difference. If it’s too low, we’ll adjust our rates once we understand the real average.
This way, nothing arrives with surprise fees at your door. Everything is prepaid, even if the process feels clunky right now.
The bigger picture
These changes increase the cost of sending Australian goods to the U.S. and raise postage prices across Australia as Australia Post absorbs the cost of rolling out this system so quickly. It’s a political decision with real impacts on small businesses and the customers who love them.
But there’s good news. We can ship to the U.S. again. Our biodegradable glitter is moving across oceans once more — and even though it costs more, it will still arrive safely, legally, and guilt-free.
